The Museum of Science and Industry Photgraphy Sale

From the Museum of Science and Industry artifact collection, CoSo Art is pleased to offer for sale a significant group of vintage fine art photographs that were rediscovered in the museum in 1997 and have been formally de-accessioned. Included in this collection are photographs from the early 20th century, representing a range of styles and subjects. The donation groups include The International Photographic Salon from the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition; the collection of Chicagoan Dr. Max Thorek; the Agfa Ansco Corporation Photography Salon; the Chicago Camera Club; the U.S. Camera 1935 Annual Salon; and others. Proceeds from the sale will be used to preserve the scientific and industrial photographs that remain in the collection.

General Condition, Pricing, Terms, and Shipping Arrangements

All photographs in this collection have been evaluated according to general condition. Interested buyers should understand that most photographs were originally mounted to exhibition backboards. A majority of the photographs were adhered using non-archival adhesives leaving a residue on the reverse side of the photograph and causing some of the photographs to separate from the mount. The mounts and historical exhibition labels have been retained due to the rich exhibition history and provenance that they provide. Additionally, on the reverse of most photographs, or their mounts, is a Museum of Science and Industry accession label.

The photographs have been priced in recognition of the work’s provenance, the photographer’s reputation, and the condition according to a ranking system of one to four (excellent to poor, respectively). All photographs are sold in an “as is” condition and all sales are final. Title will not pass until the payment has been cleared.

A certificate of prior ownership prepared by the Museum of Science and Industry will accompany the purchase of each photograph.

Buyers will be charged applicable sales tax and for packing and shipping at the time of sale. Shipping and handling within the Continental U.S. is $50 per package. Each package will hold up to five Museum of Science and Industry photographs. For additional information, please see our How To Buy section.
